Commissioners approve insurance matters Tuesday

Grayson County commissioners took just seven minutes on Tuesday to complete their weekly meeting. In the short time span, commissioners approved an insurance settlement for water damage at Grayson County Justice Center, renewed medical malpractice insurance with Evantson and approved a road bore at the intersection of Brooks Lane and Martin Lane in Precinct 3.

Grayson County Auditor Richey Rivers said the Justice Center suffered approximately $19,000 in damages due to a leaking valve in a boiler. The insurance check was for a little more than $6,600. Rivers told commissioners the county’s deductible on the police is $10,000.

Next commissioners took up a topic they started discussing late last year with the county’s insurance consultant Don Gray. Commissioners had a number of questions, at the time, about the county’s medical malpractice insurance. After a great deal of discussion, the county decided to have a local insurance agent, David Bayless, look into the matter. Tuesday the Court decided to renewal its policy with Evanston. The county saved approximately $7,000 with the negotiations and Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum thanked Bayless for his work on the county’s behalf.
